Hey
My name is Eden, and I am a Youth Intern at Edwardstown Baptist
Church. What does that mean? Well I’m glad you asked, but first I want
to tell you a little more about myself.
I was born and bred in
Taranaki, New Zealand in the small town of Inglewood. My parents are
the first Christians in their families, and my brothers, sister and I
grew up in a small Independent Baptist Church. I have an older brother
who is married with a 1 year old boy. They are currently living in
Hamilton, NZ. My older sister is in her third year of Nursing at
Adelaide University, and I have a younger brother in year 9 at school.
Growing
up, my parents were unhappy with the schools in our area, so my
siblings and I were home schooled. My father was the caretaker of our
church and we lived in a house on the church property. The church ran
school holiday camps, and had a few acres of land which was home to a
small number of cows and sheep. Many of my fondest memories of
childhood had something to do with being out with the animals and my
dad.
When I was 6 God called my family to move North to a city
called Hamilton, and run a campsite there. This was a very new and
difficult experience for my family, though being a child, I was quite
naïve of it at the time. My parents resurrected a dead campsite, and
you can only imagine all the hard work that went into this. After two
years we again felt God’s call on our lives to move so that dad could
study at a Christian Bible college to become a pastor. So, off we went
to Adelaide, Australia.
So here I am, finished my high school
education, deferred from a Psych degree at uni, working two part time
jobs and volunteering at my church two days a week.
Now let me
tell you about my work at EBC. I, along with three other interns,
prepare, plan, review, discuss, confer, discover, change, improve,
fail, succeed, and learn.
